Taking a break and enjoying family time

5/30/13
Hello again,
Here is my 2nd blog post.  This has been fun--just sort of free flowing writing, learning about blogs,  and laughing with my family about all of it.

This past weekend people all over our great nation celebrated Memorial Day, to honor all of our veterans for the sacrificing they have done.  There were many activities around Centre County to commemorate this holiday. It is a time when many families gather together and have a picnic. My son loves to cook, so he invited us and his in-laws over for lunch. Since I had been "chugging and plugging" (an expression from my friend Renee) on my schoolwork, I decided I deserved a break--so I went.  My husband, on the other hand, had a nasty cold, so he stayed home on the couch. :-(

As always, my son's food was amazing! :-) He grilled hamburgers and bison burgers.  He also grilled chicken that was prepared two different ways.  One batch of chicken was marinated overnight in a homemade barbeque sauce and the other was prepared with a rub.  I am not sure which chicken I got, but it was delicious! :-)  He also grilled some steaks that had a pile of salt on them as they were being grilled.  He had heard about this recipe and wanted to try it out.  We weren't sure how salty they would taste, but they were quite salty!  I am not sure if he will try this recipe again.

The photo you see is of me, my son, and my grandchildren, with some of the yummy food he grilled.  Oh--and I can't forget--my grandson, who is following in his father's (cooking) footsteps, baked us some brownies for dessert.  I was thrilled when I walked into the kitchen and caught the aroma of chocolate!  "Do I smell chocolate", I asked?  My grandson replied, "Yes, you do Grandma.  I am baking brownies". "Yay!", I replied. And, of course, they were delicious, also. :-)

It was a great afternoon.  After helping clean up and receiving the usual hugs and kisses, it was time to go.   Fortunately, I was able to take with me: a plateful of food for Grandpa, a photo of my son, my grandchildren and me (saved on the laptop), and another fun family memory.

I am grateful for all of my blessings. :-)
